P.S. We all know what happened the last time a group of wizards went to a shabby cafe in Tottenham Court Road - DO NOT SAY THE DARK LORDS NAME AT THIS MEETING!
Dear Muggles,
We apologize for having to postpone tomorrow's event. Due to circumstances beyond our control, us being muggles and all, the "Quidditch in the Park and the London Zoo Visit" have been pushed back to next week. Here are the details for the event:
London Zoo Visit and Quidditch in the Park
Where: Regent's Park
When: Meet at the London Zoo at 11am, Sunday the 10th of February
We hope that you can all attend this event and have a great day battling it out on the quidditch pitch for some house points! It's going to be a great day out for everyone, so don't miss out this opportunity to do your house proud and play quidditch!
Never tickle a sleeping dragon,
Shri Rengasamy
Head of Gryffindor
P.S. Feel free to bring along some of your friends - the more that come, the merrier the quidditch match!
Dear Muggles,
First of all, happy new year to you all! I hope you all had a good break. We have some fantastic events in store for you this term, including Quidditch games (involves balloons...you'll see ;)) and a trip to London Zoo to talk to the snakes!
We'll be kicking off the term with a film screening of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in ULU. We're not allowed to bring any food or drink along, so I'm looking into having catering.
Date: Monday 21st January
Time: 7.00pm (a slightly earlier start because the room closes at 10pm)
Place: ULU!! (directions here)
See you all soon!
Your loyal Head of Hufflepuff,
Davina

P.S. WHY are Hufflepuff in 4th place with these house points?!?!?!?!?! Come on Hufflepuff's we can overtake Gryffindor at least!
P.P.S. We might have some new members because ULU are having a re-freshers fayre :) Note that your HP Soc will be attending this fayre legally! No security guards against us! Yessssssss! Harry Potter rules!
Sorry this blog post is being posted after the actual event!!
As far as I know, there are only 5 unis with Harry Potter societies:
- University of London Union (there are actually 20 London universities in ULU)
- Cardiff
- Oxford
- Cambridge
- Aberdeen
These are unarguably the top five universities in the UK, and probably in the world.
So, the Cardiff HP Soc invited the ULU HP Soc to their Yule Ball! The event was black tie with a free cocktail to start with, a three course meal, and a giant chocolate fountain followed by a disco. (Oh jeez it feels very odd to say disco! I mean clubbing?!) Tickets were £28 each. Most of us travelled in Jason's car, and a couple on the train, and we stayed overnight for free (whoopee!) either in the hotel or someones student house.
Date: Sunday 9th December
Time: 7.30pm
Place: a hotel in Cardiff!
The event was FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know a lot of you were put off because of the cost and having lectures the following day, but if Cardiff are doing this again next year, I do urge you to come because it will be one of the best nights of your uni life.
House Points were awarded on two different dances. Winner of:
Most Outrageous Dance = Jason Penn of Slytherin (100 house points)
Most Sexual Dance - Nick Lloyd of Slytherin (100 house points)
It's not a spelling error, this will be a Harry Potter fanfart evening! Fanfart is comedic fanart, so draw whatever you think is funny!
Everyone will draw an individual fanfart, and house points will be awarded for the quality and laughability of your drawing. You'll also do a drawing together with the people in your house, and this will be on either A3 or A2 paper.
Pens, pencils & paper will be supplied, but please bring along your own colouring pencils/felts if you have any since there may not be enough.
Date: Monday 26th November
Time: 7.30pm
Place: The room downstairs in "The Green Man". The pub is opposite Great Portland Street Station
Since we have so many Potter buffs, the questions this time will be harder than Dudley's right arm, trickier than Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, more perplexing than the reason for Dumbledore's antipathy to shaving.....you get the idea!
Date: Monday 12th November
Time: 7.30pm
Place: the downstairs room in "The Green Man", opposite Great Portland Street Station
As we all know, Hallowe'en is one of those magical times of the year when we can get dressed up in Harry Potter costumes and NOT get stared at as if we've just escaped from the local psychiatric hospital.
Last year, to celebrate what Prof McGonagall once said would probably be known as Harry Potter Day (read the first chapter of the first book...) we decided to celebrate the Boy Who Lived, and went on a liver-unfriendly pub crawl.
In costume, obviously.
This was definitely one of the highlights of last year - as we marched down the street pointing our wands at Muggles and giving them the odd hex, whilst approaching others and asking if they'd like to stroke our wands, or if they'd like to see our Chamber of Secrets...
If you check out the gallery, you can see us in all our glory as we ended up at King's Cross station, playing drinking games by Platform 9 3/4.
Even some tourists wanted us in the photos with them!
Getting Costumes
If you want to join us, we thoroughly recommend coming in costume. You will very rarely get the opportunity to walk through the streets of London, in a group of people dressed as Hogwartsians, so you should definitely make the most of it.
Of course, costume is entirely optional, and even just a witch's hat will make you enjoy Hallowe'en much more.
Here are some tips for getting costumes ready.
Pound Shops!
These are your friends at Hallowe'en. Last year I bought a couple of little fluffy Hedwigs, a small broomstick (my little Nimbus 2000) and a witch's hat for a grand total of 4 pounds. yes, that's FOUR pounds!!
I personally went to the pound shop next to Whitechapel tube station, but there are pound shops in many places, like Camden and Holloway.
I also bought a Gryffindor patch on ebay last year for about 2 pounds. I also had bought some house scarves, but these aren't too easy to get in time as I could only get them from an American seller, so took a few weeks to arrive. So, a white shirt, grey or black jumper and a black coat will be perfect, with a plain coloured tie if you can't get the right colour stripey ones. I'm going to bring my wands - I have about 6 or 7, so I'll share them out. If you can't get hold of a wig - then you can get spray on (and wash out) hair colour from boots.
We will send you details on where to meet us, and when. Until then, have fun finding costumes, and send us a message if you find something exciting, or need some more ideas for characters.
Here are a few good ideas for characters, if you don't want to go as just a normal student.
Luna - blonde wig if you don't have long blonde hair, blue tie.
Draco/Lucius - another blonde wig! but green tie, or black cloak if you have one for lucius (i have his cane, so if anyone wants to go as him, i'll bring the nice big shiny cane with - the wand comes out of the cane!! it's gorgeous!!)
Harry - Nick is going to be Harry for the evening, (he doesn't have a choice...) but that doesn't mean that noone else can. We recommend black eyeliner pencil to draw on a scar (I did this last year when I went as Harriet Potter...)
Ginny/Lily - red hair (get a wash-out red hair spray for 3 or 4 quid from boots) and obviously a red tie or gryff scarf.
Bella/Narcissa - black/blonde wig respectively, black clothes, (preferably gothic and a bit sexy) and black cloak/long coat.
Tonks - pink/purple wig or hair spray ( they sell them in boots) a t shirt of your favourite rock/indie band - (Tonks likes the Weird Sisters but unfortunately they don't exist!) and otherwise cool stuff - check her out in google images, for pics of her from the film.
Cho - ravenclaw scarf/blue tie, black wig if you don't have black hair, smug look for getting to kiss harry... ;-)
Voldemort - red contact lenses... shave your head?! snake is optional (i'm not bringing mine, they're gonna stay safely in their vivariums... and yes, i do own 2 snakes, check out the pics on facebook!)
Hagrid - bushy beard, moleskin coat or other big coaty thing. oh and big boots. and preferably a big giant dog. or a dragon - your choice!
Happy costume-hunting!!!
See you at Hallowe'en - or Harry Potter Day.
Your friendly Head of Slytherin
Naomi
